The brief for this project required me to explore sustainability and design for the particular demographic of children. I decided to use bamboo in its natural pole like form as it is a very sustainable material due to it being a fast growing grass yet it has properties of a hard wood once dried. Another positive of using bamboo in its natural state is that there is no need for preproduction such as sheeting or treating. My final design was a rocking bench for children which could be turned around into a bench/tunnel and climbing frame. The product utilises the round shape of the bamboo to create an organic shape as well as its qualities such as its ability to create sound. Also I wanted to use as little fixtures as possible it is mainly held together by old reconditioned seat-belts which can be clipped together to make armrests when rocking.
